2005 Arizona Regionals Results
Thirteen TRC shooters made the trip up to Phoenix's Ben Avery Shooting Facility for the 2005 Arizona Regional Highpower Championships held from Friday 11 Mar through Sunday 13 Mar 05.
As is becoming their habit, they turned in award winning performances on all three days
Friday consisted of three 600-yard Prone Slowfire Long Range matches. Jim Denovchek took Civilian Match Rifle First Expert in Match 2 with a 189-1X. Sgt Walter Tang, USMCR came in Second Service Service Rifle Master in Match 2 with a 196-6X.
Saturday was a 1000-point Across-the-Course tournament with 97 shooters participating.
SSgt Justin Skaret, USMCR and Pete Wolf each came home with three prizes that day:
Justins 197-7X was good for a First Service Service Rifle High Master in the first Prone Slowfire match. His 197-7X in Prone Rapidfire and 976-29X aggregate placed him Second in his class and Fourth overall in Service Rifle.
Pete took Second Civilian Service Rifle Expert in the second Prone Slowfire match with a 191-6X. His 197-3X and 193-4X earned him a Third in his class for the Sitting and Prone Rapidfire matches.
Wally Tang scored again by winning both rapidfire events in the Service Service Rifle Master class with a clean 200-10X Sitting and 195-4X Prone.
Lee McKinney proved that age and skill can beat youth and enthusiasm by winning the Civilian Match Rifle Master class Aggregate with a 970-18X and taking Third in Sitting Rapidfire with 197-6X.
Single award winners in the Standing Slowfire match Saturday included SSgt Dan Rodriguez winning the Service Service Rifle Master class with 191-3X and Bob Piriskys 187-3X placing Third in the Civilian Service Rifle Expert class.
On Sundays 30-shot team match TRC Red consisting of Bill Poole, Tim Hibbs, Dean Fadeley, and Steve Merritt came in Third overall with a combined score of 1107-17X. TRC Golds 1065-12X kept Pete Wolf, Bob Pirisky, Bill Gibson, and Maury Krupp out of the cellar by 82 points. TRC was also represented on the First and Second place teams by SSgt Skaret on USMCR Gold and Sgt Tang on USMCR MARPAT.
The final event of the weekend was the 50-shot Excellence-in-Competition Match. Justin Skaret won the Gold Medal and Dan Rodriguez the Bronze. Of the non-distinguished shooters Wally Tang took home the 8-point leg and Pete Wolf was First Leather missing a leg by a mere three points.
