luiten: September 2006 Archives
Friends,
At the request of the family it is my sad duty to report the passing of our founder, Jeff Cooper. Jeff died peacefully at home this afternoon while being cared for by his wife Janelle and daughter Lindy.
There will be a private internment at Gunsite by invitation, with a public memorial service at the Whittington Center at a date to be announced.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
DVC,
Ed

This is a reminder that the 600 yard high power rifle matches which were scheduled at Tucson Rifle Club for Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 29, 2006, are CANCELED. These dates have become work days for rebuilding of the 200 yard firing line. (Your volunteer help would be greatly appreciated!)
The M1 for Vets Project is a grass-roots program aimed at thanking our wounded soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen for their service and sacrifice in the Global War on Terror. Rifles are presented to veterans who wish to pursue the shooting sports or collecting as part of their rehabilitation.
The project is the brainchild of John JJ OShea. An avid M1 collector and competitive shooter himself, JJ was looking for a way to honor our wounded veterans. He hit upon the idea to purchase rifles from the Civilian Marksmanship Program, refurbish them, and then present these rifles to veterans.
In accordance with the recently announced high power rifle schedule changes at Tucson Rifle Club, next Sunday, September 24, 2006, will be the date for our next 1000 yard practice match. Event details are as follows:
